Penn State 1+3 Program

Congratulations on becoming a Penn Stater!

We cannot wait to see you on campus. Because demand for Penn State University Park is at an all-time high, we want to share an exciting opportunity with you – our 1+3 Program, which is designed to help you and your family afford a top-notch Penn State education by reducing your first-year costs. You’ll enjoy the full Penn State experience along with significant savings.

So how does 1+3 work? You’ll choose a new Penn State campus for your first year, and then you’ll have the option to transition to the University Park campus for your second year and beyond.

Let’s break it down:

The cost savings you’ll realize as part of the program come from a few different areas:

  • The $10,000 tuition grant
  • The $6,000 housing grant if you live on campus
  • The tuition difference between the University Park campus and your new starting campus, which can range from $3,800-5,400 for in-state students and $12,000-15,000 for out-of-state students.

In-state students can save up to $21,000, while out-of-state students can save up to $31,000! More than 200 incoming Penn Staters took advantage of this program last year and saved thousands of dollars.

Tuition Note:

It’s important to note that these savings are calculated based on 2022-2023 tuition rates, which may change for the upcoming academic year. Penn State’s Board of Trustees will set 2023-2024 tuition rates before fall 2023 classes begin.
